2022 report on the summer meeting bowmaker
|
An excellent turn out for this 3 Ball Bowmaker Stableford with 25 tee times filled. All 75 Senior Ladies appeared to enjoy the day and there were lots of very positive comments.
The weather was kind, as the heavy rain and thunder and lightning missed us completely. Jane Moreton, Hazel Bevan and Tricia Folland from Burnham and Berrow came in with a fantastic score of 83! Having achieved pars on 12 holes. The Minehead Team of Tricia Grinter, Gill Hurley and Ruth Ball came second just 3 points short of the leaders even though they also achieved pars on 12 holes. In third place it was a team from Burnham and Berrow again. Fiona Hodge, Sue Reading and Annette Poynton came in with 78 points having achieved par on 9 holes. Because there was such a good turn out the team in fourth place were included in the winners. Players from Enmore Park, Sue Hockley and Carol Robinson, plus Lesley Wills from Tickenham made 77 points which included pars on 11 holes. Congratulations to Jennifer Hawkins of Enmore Park who achieved a 2 on the third hole. Thank you to all who helped out as Starters and to Sarah who ran the Golf Ball Raffle for us and made a splendid £106. I have to say a special thank you to Sue Stilwell who set up the IG system for us and Ben Lock in the Pro Shop who entered all the results. Thank you also to Cathy Preston who kindly took on the delegates role for a time. Janet Handley SCSLGA Competition Secretary July 2022 |

2021 REPORT ON SUMMER MEETING - 3 august 2021 at CRICKET ST. THOMAS GC
Playing conditions were difficult due to the heavy rain which continued during most of the Competition. The course was extremely wet and unfortunately one or two teams lost their way for a time as the longer grass had obscured the direction arrows between tees.
The first players to come in averaged scores of between 40 and 60. The second team out Diane Ramsey, Linda Wright, and Sue Slade of Wells doing very well by achieving a 63 very early in the Competition. However, the Stockwood team of Andrea Jordan, Helen Wormald and Patsy Hurst who teed off at 11.40 came in with an outstanding score of 86. Andrea achieved pars on 5 holes plus a birdie. Helen with 4 pars and Patsy with 3. An amazing game. Their handicaps will be changing very soon if they continue to play as well as this. As the rain eased and stopped, the teams who played later seemed to gain an advantage as scores improved. In second place were Pam Berry, Ronnie Follenfant (Isle of Wedmore) and Penny Oliver (Mendip) the last team to go out. They came in with an impressive 77. Ronnie achieving 3 pars and Penny 2 pars and a birdie on the second. In third place, teeing off third from last was one of the home teams of Ruth Dowell, Maori Wandless and Ellie Langford with a score of 69. Congratulations to the winning teams. It was most impressive that so many teams played and you all deserve a medal for having done so. Despite the weather all the players I spoke to were impressed with the course. Thanks to Barbara Shaw, the delegate at Cricket St Thomas who introduced me to two stalwarts David and June Hutchings. They were the starters from 10 am until the last team out at 13.30 pm. The weather during that time was appalling and I was pleased to see that they had managed to commandeer a buggy for shelter in between tee times. Thank you both so much. There were a couple of issues which I hope didn’t spoil the day too much for anyone who may have been involved. Matt Carreras the Pro was another hero, setting up the laptop and screen so that we were able to view the results in the Sports Bar where we were situated. He also checked the cards and put in the results. That made our job so much quicker and easier. Many thanks Matt. Thanks to Lisa and the bar staff who remained cheerful and supportive throughout. Thanks also to the caterers, the food was nicely presented and much appreciated by those who stayed to eat. Caroline Lumley Franks was a star turn, arriving at 9 in the morning and not leaving until after lunch, she made a fantastic £85 on the Golf Ball Raffle. Excellent work Caroline! Finally, a huge thank you to Linda Trump without whom the day would not have gone as smoothly as it did. Janet Handley Senior Ladies Competition Secretary |
