INTER COUNTY MATCH RESULTS 2024
SLPC v Gloucestershire
at Shirehampton Golf Club
17th September 2024
The Result: SLPC 2, Gloucestershire 6
Although the day started being a little cool it soon warmed up and the sun shone for our final match of the season. Bacon sandwiches and coffee started the proceedings and after pairings, the teams set off on the hilly but enjoyable course of Shirehampton.
There were a couple of incidents out on the course with Vicki Sach being stung by a wasp with her arm swelling up, leaving her feeling a little dizzy and Di Yates getting a splinter from a rake. But everyone arrived back in one piece!! Later some kind Gloucestershire ladies got the splinter out by using a credit card which made everyone smile.
A couple of late entries to the team occurred the week before with Linda Reynolds slotting in for Ros Gait and the day before our match Paulette Bamberger-Worton was replaced with Heather Kerr-Wilbur – grateful thanks to both ladies.
Heather Priestley and Eve Bolton remembered they had played against each other many years before and I had unknowingly paired them as a team for the match. Over the course of the day they decided it was well over 30 years since that first meeting!!
The staff at Shirehampton were very obliging and served up our 2 course meal with smiles, paying particular attention to those ladies who had dietary requirements. The food was most enjoyable.
Unfortunately the downside to the day was the fact that we lost 2/6 to Gloucestershire. However we departed knowing the day had been a success.

SLPC v Wiltshire
at High Post Golf Club, Salisbury
19th August 2024
The Result: SLPC 4, Wiltshire 4
A rather windy day greeted the SLPC team as they arrived on the outskirts of Salisbury but no rain and no blistering heat so we must count ourselves lucky. An honourable draw where almost each match bar one finished on the 18th hole so there were a lot of “if only” and “I should have” mutterings and banter during the post match drinks. So nearly a win – if only. The Wiltshire ladies were very hospitable and great company.
Thank you to everyone who played and thanks for your patience as I stood in last minute for Linda Johnson who did all the hard work in organising the match.

SLPC v Hampshire
at Waterlooville Golf Club
25th July 2024
The Result: SLPC 4, Cornwall 4
A significant number of the the SLPC team to play Hampshire travelled to Waterlooville the night before the match. It was wonderful to meet up with everyone, have drink and chat.
The challenge was to play golf at Waterlooville GC in rather challenging weather. The amazing thing was everyone stepped up and braved the wet conditions. Waterlooville is a lovely course and it would be great to play it in the dry and with the sun shining. The team did well as the result was a half, which is great considering we almost always lose to Hampshire. So well done everybody.

at Enmore Park Golf Club
1st July 2024
The Result: SLPC 5 1/2, Cornwall 2 1/2
A most enjoyable day - the weather was very kind, the course was in lovely condition and a pleasant meal to finish. 4 games went to the 18th. We won 2 of those, halved one and lost one. So it was a very close match and the scores in the other games were also tight, with a 2/1 win, 2 up win and a 3/2 win.

SLPC v Dorset
at The Mendip
6th June 2024
The Result: Dorset 4, SLPC 3
The weather was sunny if a little chilly now and again up on the top of the Mendips. However the course was playing well and the views were stunning. Unfortunately Dorset could only field 7 teams, the majority of whom had high handicaps, resulting in the loss to Somerset. The meal after was very good with great attention paid to dietary requirements. Lots of fun and chatter so a good day was had by all.

SLPC v Devon
at Wheathill Golf Club
23rd May 2024
The result: Devon 6 1/2, SLPC 1/2
I regret to report a real drubbing by the Devon ladies. However, the weather was kind if a little chilly. As always, the matches were played in excellent spirit and all seemed to enjoy their matches and the company of the other members of each group. We had an excellent meal afterwards and the staff at Wheathill couldn't have been more welcoming, friendly and helpful.
