INTER COUNTY MATCH RESULTS 2022
SPLC v Gloucestershire
at Farrington Park GC
20th September 2022
The Result: A draw
What started off as a cool, cloudy day turned into a sunny really warm afternoon with everyone taking off their layers almost from the start!!
The course was in excellent condition and although Farrington has it’s challenges the teams were coming off the 18th all smiling whatever the results of their matches. We were assembled on the patio, in the sunshine to welcome them until it was time for a very enjoyable quiche, salad and roast potatoes, followed by a delicious apple crumble and custard.
Some of the matches were quite close but the final result was a very amicable draw.
There was a real buzz in the dining room with lots of laughter. All in all a very enjoyable day.

SPLC v Wiltshire
at Kingsdown GC
4th August 2022
The Result: SLPC 6, Wiltshire 2
We were welcomed warmly by the Captain, Trisha Cook. Throughout the match arrangement process, Trisha kept Somerset fully aware of arrangements, even going so far as to warn about the warm weather forecast. Trisha also prepared all team cards in advance.
The course was in excellent condition and the bacon butties were served in lovely bread rolls and the buffet following the game was excellent. Plenty for everyone.

SLPC v Hampshire
at Wellow Golf Club,
Wednesday 20 July 2022
The Result: SLPC 1/2, Hampshire 61/2
We had a team of 7 pairs with everybody arriving to play. The Hampshire team were extremely friendly, particularly the captain, welcoming us to Wellow.
Wellow Golf Club is a course of three 9 holes which was very interesting as there were some challenging holes. The club provided excellent bacon baps and delicious two-course meals, for a small cost of £34. There was a joyous atmosphere all round, with everyone chatting and laughing together.

SLPC v Devon
at Taunton and Pickeridge GC
Monday 11 July 2022
The Result: SLPC 2 1/2, Devon 5 1/2
Sadly we lost but the whole event ran smoothly and was played in a very friendly spirit. The weather was brilliant, the course superb and the catering complimented by all players – some going back for seconds.
Both Captains had to call in reserves a couple of days before so on behalf of Somerset, thanks to Claire Biggs not only for standing in but with her partner Sheila Claxton, for giving Somerset one of their wins.
Janice White of Wells Golf Club had a hole in one on the 2nd and she kindly treated us all to a glass of Pimms which was very much appreciated. Well done Janice. See photos below.
Some of the Somerset ladies hadn’t played in a match before and they said how much they had enjoyed it and would certainly put their names down again.
SLPC v Gwent
at Mendip Spring GC
Thursday 23 June 2022
The Result: SLPC 3, Gwent 5
Despite coinciding with the Glastonbury festival everybody arrived on time. We were able to sit outside in the sun for our pre match refreshment. Despite some worries about the chance of thunderstorms the weather was excellent. No rain and not too hot. The course was in fabulous condition although the fast greens provided a challenge.
Two matches were won by Somerset, two were halved and, sadly, four were lost. It was however a close-run thing with all the matches being played in great spirit.
We opted to eat in our groups as we came in. The food was excellent with a choice of chicken and ham pie with chips or ham salad, followed by a delicious chocolate brownie with ice cream. Judging by the level of conversation in the room I would say everyone had a most enjoyable meal.
The Gwent captain thanked us for organising such a good day and hoped that we would be able to make the journey over to Wales for the return match next year.

SLPC v Dorset
at Long Sutton Golf Club
9th June 2022
The result: Dorset 5, SLPC 3
The match against Dorset was played in lovely weather and the course was in fabulous condition with lightening fast greens.
For ladies visiting Long Sutton for the first time in a long while they could be forgiven for not expecting the addition of some new ditches and bunkers likened to those generally found on link courses with compacted and very high sides in places.
We were looked after incredibly well with a lovely meal post match and it was especially lovely to see all of the ladies enjoying each others company after such a long period of abstinence through COVID and with lots of chatter and smiles on the golf course and in the clubhouse throughout the day.
The Somerset Ladies played well but were giving shots in 7 out of 8 matches and could just not keep up with the great play from the Dorset Ladies in 5 of our 8 teams.
My thanks go to all of those ladies that took part today. Special thanks also go to Linda Johnson and Claire Biggs for their work behind the scenes supporting me with my first event of captaining a match for SLPCS and ensuring I had everything I needed to make my day so pleasurable.

SLPC v Cornwall
at Enmore Park Golf Club
25th April 2022
The result: Cornwall 5, SLPC 1
The match against Cornwall was played in delightful weather, though it was chilly in the early morning. By the time the teams had consumed their bacon rolls, the sun was warming everyone.
Cornwall were only able to field 11 ladies. So Linda Johnson very kindly stepped in to play for Cornwall and that match was halved. However, the highlight for this group was a Hole in One on the 15th by Linda. Definitely a thank you to Linda for stepping in at the last moment.
Special thanks also go to the 4 ladies who still came to Enmore and played at the end of the matches, protecting the games from the following men! They were Denise Burton, Pauline Cornish, Jenny Swann and a very last minute extra from Enmore, Anne Weston. They enjoyed the course and the meal with everyone else.
Though the day was very lovely and the food was gorgeous, the match did not achieve a good result for Somerset. Stephanie Moorcroft and Sally Jackson and Sue Acland and Jill Paul halved their matches but the rest of the games (4) were all lost, though very closely finishing on the 18th in most cases.
My thanks go to all the team members for their commitment to our games.
