INTER COUNTY MATCH RESULTS 2025
SLPC v Somerset Past Club Captains
at Brean Golf Club
Tuesday 1st July 2025
The Result: A draw
The annual match between the SLPC and the Men, now known as The Somerset Past Club Captains, took place at Brean GC on Tuesday 1st July on a sunny but windy day. The breeze was welcome as the sunshine made for a very hot day with very little shade though also several holes, especially on the back nine, were into the strong wind. There were 3 Lady Past Club Captains playing for the opposition which made 3 teams a novelty 3 ladies and only 1 man.
The clubhouse and Brean staff made us very welcome and served a very welcome meal enjoyed by all. This was followed by the speeches which caused much amusement but the result, when given seemed to please everyone as this is a Friendly match which this year was halved 4 all. There were 3 wins to each team and 2 drawn matches. Our ladies had a very good experience and any lost matches were very close, only finishing on the 17th or 18th holes. Well done SLPC.

SLPC v Dorset
at Crane Valley Golf Club
12th June 2025
The Result: SLPC 2 1/2, Dorset 3 1/2
All players arrived amidst a variety of adventures in very challenging weather conditions. Two players were stranded with a puncture in the middle of nowhere whilst another had got lost. All battled on and arrived in time to play. The bacon bap was excellent and the meal following the 9-hole match was amazing, fantastic presentation and quality. Although we made the decision to play 9 holes due to weather conditions the course was delightful and in excellent condition. Very friendly golf club and we all enjoyed the day. Amazing patio overlooking the 18th green.

All of our ladies arrived in plenty of time. The bacon butties and tea/coffee were enjoyed by all.
The course played very well and was appreciated by everyone.
To my absolute delight, this is the best loss so far. Well done team. You are all stars!

SLPC v Devon
at Okehampton Golf Club
30th May 2025
The Result: SLPC 0, Devon 8
16 ladies travelled to Okehampton in Devon. The weather was fine but the course proved extremely challenging. It was clearly an advantage to know the course as there were a lot of slopes, trees and blind greens.
The Somerset ladies tried their best but to no avail. We were beaten in every match. Fortunately, most of the ladies enjoyed the day despite the challenging conditions and the buffet meal was sufficiently varied to satisfy everyone.

SLPC v Cornwall
at Launceston Golf Club
7th April 2025
The Result: SLPC 3, Cornwall 3
On Monday 7th April, the SLPC team travelled down to Launceston to play our match against Cornwall. The day was wonderful - sun, sun and more sun, a challenging but enjoyable course and a very close match.
We won the first match and then lost the next three that came in, meaning there were two outstanding games. They both went to the final hole and both our pairs won on the 18th. This meant we had a drawn match - 3 games each. All very pleasing! Well done Deidre Wheadon and her partner Annie George and then Gwen Cavill and Helen Wormald with Gwen holing the vital last putt.
Many thanks to all the ladies who played and a special mention for Wendy Lucas, Isle of Wedmore, playing her first SLPC match. She had a hole in 1 on the 9th.
