spring meeting - wednesday 15 may at worlebury gc
There were 28 entries this year to our Spring Meeting - 4BBB but entering as pairs. Fortunately - given our recent weather - it stayed dry and although initially blustery and overcast, the final pairs came in through lovely sunshine.
As a club, Worlebury has made the Seniors exceptionally welcome and as this is my first meeting as Competitions Secretary, I am particularly grateful to our Delegate, Sue Kinch; Ladies’ Vice Captain Cheryl (and husband Barry who met you all as our starter); I had help on the desk by Hazel Cox and Jill Phillips who assisted in raising £67 for Charity (Children’s Hospice South West); Maxine in the office and Matt the chef for being so accommodating to our food requirements. It was fun for me, despite not playing!
Now for the serious bit - the winners were Jackie Hallett and Andrea Jordan both from Stockwood Vale with 34 points - playing off 85% handicap. They are pictured on the first tee, thanks again to Barry, smiling.
Runners up also with 34 points, (decided on best back nine) were last year’s winners, Sue Kinch and Cheryl Saunders from Worlebury. For the sake of completion, 3rd was Sue Vowles and Hazel Bevan from Burnham and Berrow with 33. A tight finish indeed. Prizes were awarded for first and second only due to the small numbers of entries. So next year we need to have more of you for more prizes!
In relation to the results, I do need to thank Janet Fear for meeting me ahead of the fixture and for coming in twice on competition day to help with the results. Without her knowledge and expertise, I think we would all still be there waiting for the results! Thank you Janet.
Happy golfing for the rest of the year Ladies, hopefully see more of you at future meetings.

spring meeting - monday 15 may 2023 at long sutton golf club
The Long Sutton course looked perfect in the sunshine although there was a cold, blustery wind. The course was in excellent condition, but it is a long and challenging course, the Competition took an exhausting four and half hours. Well done to all of you for lasting the course.
Thank you to all those who played and a particular thank you to Taunton and Pickeridge and Wheathill members who made up the majority of the field. Sue Kinch and Cheryl Saunders of Worlebury playing off 31 and 26 came in with an amazing 41 points. Corinne Lyon and Theresa Dowsett of Taunton and Pickeridge took second place with 35 points having a better back 9 than Hazel Bevan and Sue Vowles of Burnham and Berrow who took third place. A close run competition for fourth place with four pairs making 31 points. With a better back nine by one point Anne Regler and Marion Underhill of Orchardleigh take fourth place. Jill Paul presented vouchers to the winners Cheryl and Sue, plus Corinne and Theresa for second place. Vouchers for third and fourth will be posted. Thank you to Paul and Rob (Starters), the cheerful bar staff and the caterers for some much needed sustenance after all that fresh air. The food was nicely presented and very tasty. Thank you to Caroline Lumley-Frank who oversaw the golf ball raffle which made a healthy £66 which goes into the kitty to help support future events. A special thank you to Melissa who multi tasked throughout the day and to Christine Turner, Long Sutton’s Lady Captain, who gave up her whole day to support with a variety of tasks. I hope both are able to rest today. Janet Handley |
