AUTUMN MEETING WALTZING BOWMAKER (TEAMS OF THREE)
TAUNTON & PICKERIDGE GC
MONDAY 11 SEPTEMBER 2023
The day was overcast and humid with a couple of attempts at rain which didn’t last long.
As for the last two years the Autumn Competition had had to be cancelled due to lack of support I was delighted that this year we were so well supported. Twenty teams played and while all the players enjoyed the course the format proved to be a difficult one as the holes where three scores counted were very tricky. Perhaps then, not surprising that one of the home teams won with Janet Hill, Theresa Dowsett and Margaret Blackaller achieving a splendid 78 points. Tricia Folland, Sue Vowles and Hazel Bevan of Burnham and Berrow tied with Anne Regler, Marion Underhill and Sue Sweet from Orchardleigh with an excellent 73 points. Burnham and Berrow doing slightly better on the back nine took second place. My thanks to all the ladies that took part and made it such a successful day. I am grateful to Paul Hewton, the Chairman who entered all the teams on their V1 system; Jason Avery, the Pro who supported us on the day, Rose Jarvis who gave us all such a warm welcome in the Bar and to the catering staff who provided some very tasty food throughout the day. Thank you to our Starter and SCSLGA President, Kay Luckett; also Jill Paul, Vice President and Georgia Richards, Lady Captain, who filled in the finer details of the course regarding toilet and drinking facilities and Caroline Lumley-Frank for running the golf ball raffle which made a splendid £81.
