INTER COUNTIES MATCH WEEK 2026, 06 - 08 JULY, Yeovil
Scores are posted on the Dorset website
Report by Sarah Whittock
Match week this year was held at Yeovil GC. We had Frankie Dezis, Aimee Sawyer, Hannah Woodley, Libbie Dezis, Arabella White, Abigail Moore, Abigail Whittock, Ellen Reakes, Lilianna Marshall and Megan Wilde representing us this year. Ffion Lockley was originally selected but had a call up to the Wales squad for the European Team competition. Well done Ffion!
Our first match was against Wiltshire which we halved. We then faced Devon in the afternoon and successfully won the match winning 4.5 to 0.5. We then played Cornwall on the Tuesday morning. It was a tight match, but we won 3 – 2. That afternoon we faced Dorset the eventual winners. We lost the match 4.5 to 0.5 but the results do not reflect the golf played. We pushed them right to the end with every single match going to either the 17th or 18th hole. Our final match was against Gloucestershire. We knew a win would secure second place. A draw subject to the Devon match result would also help us come second as well. The golf played in that final match was phenomenal in particular Frankie v Alex Saunders had birdies and eagles galore! Of course, it came to the last putt in the last match, and we walked away with an honourable half. Whilst Devon finished on the same match points as us, we had the game points in the bag and placed second overall.
The team that week were excellent. I am very proud of their efforts and the resilience to keep fighting to the end.

National Intercounty Finals - 19 - 21 September at Selby Golf Club
Somerset, for the third time in 5 years, competed in the National Finals - a superb achievement.
Our squad, under the captaincy of Sarah Whittock, her VC Denise Overson and Team Coach Joe Bray, did their very best and just missed out on third place. Very well done to the whole squad.
