SOUTHWEST SENIORS INTERCOUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP 2024, held at TORQUAY on 21st August
Somerset was represented by Denise Overson Long Sutton, Glenda Latham - Creasey Weston-Super Mare, Sara Cox-Conklin Burnham and Berrow and Tracey Blood Burnham and Berrow. The weather as it has been a lot of the summer, was very windy . Torquay is an interesting challenge with tree-lined fairways and extensive views across Lyme Bay. So on a windy day it’s a tough challenge. Our team did very well individually coming in mid table, but with some very good individual scores we came a close sixth place. The format was an individual medal in a three ball represented by three different counties. The field was made up of handicaps ranging from 11.2 to 1.6. Some were ex-county players and others playing in their County colours for the first time. Sara Cox-Conklin on the last tough par 3 caused a stir with a hole in one and she very sportingly bought every one involved a drink . The competition is the three best scores to count from four and with three scores in we were lying third, but a strong individual finish from Jane Rees gross 77, helped Gloucester to win. Next year Gloucester will be hosting the event, venue to be decided. It is always an honour to represent your county so it would be great to have some more players coming forward to join the team next year. As soon as we hear from Gloucester, Janet Fear our Southwest representative and Vice President will be sending out the date to your county club representatives. Alysia Rees |
