SOMERSET V CORNWALL SHIELD MATCH
MONDAY 23 MAY 2022
WORLEBURY GOLF CLUB
Our first match of the season took place at Worlebury GC and the first against Cornwall for 2 years. Although a bit chilly it did not rain which was a bonus and all those who took part were relieved to be able to get back to normal!!
Unfortunately for Somerset the Cornish team were not only in fine spirit but also up for the challenge and Somerset were beaten 6/1, however, several of the games went to the last hole.
Many thanks to Carole Paterson, SCSLGA President for acting as starter and for Sue Bamping, SCSLGA County Vice Captain for stepping in at the last moment to play for Somerset.
Thank you to all the staff at Worlebury who were very helpful and provided a splendid meal for us all. It made my first match of the season such a pleasure and I can't wait for the next one.

SOMERSET V DORSET 30 SEPTEMBER 2021
Our last match of the season took place at Ashley Wood GC. I'd like to thank Dorset for agreeing to play this Friendly match as the SW Vets Shield matches have not taken place this year as Cornwall and Devon pulled out.
Circumstances seemed to conspire to prevent this fixture happening; it was postponed from August because of Covid at the Club, then I had to change the team sheet a number of times, then the petrol situation and the weather caused doubt! However, we persevered and it happened. The somewhat hilly and sloping course was exposed to the elements and we had to fight against wind and rain. However, the ladies didn't give in and then really appreciated the good meal which was served afterwards. A halved match was a good way to finish the season. Thanks to the Dorset Captains, Jane and Sue for looking after us so well and to the Club for their hospitality. I'd like to thank all the ladies who have played in the 5 matches this year. It was especially good to welcome some new ladies to Somerset Seniors matches. They have played well. |

CAPTAIN'S TEAM V VICE CAPTAIN'S TEAM
2 SEPTEMBER 2021 AT TAUNTON & PICKERIDGE gc
This match arose from the fact that Cornwall and Devon aren't playing inter-County matches this year so I was thinking of a way to give ladies who would have played in these, a match.
Hence the idea of a Captain's v Vice-Captain's match. The matches were all played in a good spirit and most were very close. It couldn't have been a better result: 3 matches won by each team and one halved. Judging by the chatter and laughter there was as we had our meal, the ladies had a good time. Many played with ladies they hadn't met previously. There was a good number of Clubs represented. Also 28 ladies were able to play rather than 14 in a normal match. I'd like to thank T&P for hosting the match and looking after us so well. A lovely meal rounded off a very enjoyable day. Thanks to Ladies' Captain, Ali McGowan for acting as Starter and taking photos on the 1st tee. Thanks to Vice-Captain Chris for her support and for continuing to sell uniform! Captain Jill |
